The 22nd AFSIS Focal Point Meeting

On 11-12 June 2024, the 22 nd AFSIS Focal Point Meeting was conducted at Hybrid in Putrajaya, Malaysia. Hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia, in collaboration with the AFSIS Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Datuk Azah Hanim Ahmad, Deputy Secretary General (Policy), Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Malaysia. The distinguished participants included AFSIS Focal Points from ASEAN Plus Three, as well as, representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat, APTERR Secretariat, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and AFSIS Secretariat, The main objectives of the meeting are to inform the ASEAN Plus Three Countries about the outcomes and achievements of AFSIS activities in 2023-2024 (Q1) and to consider the AFSIS work plan in 2024. Apart from the report on the progress of AFSIS, the important agenda item was the consideration of the “Draft Joint Understanding of the 22 nd AFSIS Focal Point Meeting for the Sustainability of AFSIS , which outlines the working principle of AFSIS. Participants provided input, comments, and feedback on this document for further consideration to sustain AFSIS. The 22 nd AFSIS Focal Point Meeting is also a great opportunity for the AFSIS Focal Points and all participants to share, discuss, and extend knowledge and innovation on agricultural statistics, the challenges of food security in the region, and sustainable development goals. The Meeting expressed appreciation toward the roles of the AFSIS in strengthening food security and vowed to cooperate and support the projects under AFSIS implementation continually. It successfully ended with great collaboration from all participants. The next 23 rd AFSIS Focal Point Meeting will be hosted by Myanmar in June 2025.
