The 42th Meeting of the ASEAN Food Security Reserve Board (AFSRB)

The 42nd Meeting of the ASEAN Food Security Reserve Board (AFSRB) hosted by Cambodia was held as a Video Conference through Zoom platform due to the COVID-19 pandemic on 11 May 2022. There were 37 participants from AFSRB Secretariat, AFSRB Member States namely; Brunei Darussalam Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, ASEAN Secretariat, APTERR Secretariat, OECD, and AFSIS Secretariat attended the meeting.

The Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on CAPI by ADB and FAO

On 30 March 2022, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the FAO-Regional Office for Asia-Pacific have recently launched two free “Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) using CSPro Android and Survey Solutions” for people who are interested in the basics of CAPI data collection and management, and also for those who would like to develop their own questionnaires and apply these skills to a wide variety of surveys.

Preparatory Meeting for the Satellite-derived Agrometeorological Data Training with JAXA/ISRO/GISTDA

On the 21st April 2022, AFSIS Secretariat had attended the virtual preparatory meeting which was conducted by the Space Applications for Environment (SAFE) Executive Board coordinated by the Co-Chairs Dr. Shantanau Bhatawdekar from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Dr. Shin-ichi Sobue from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for the training program on "Satellite-derived Agrometeorological Data for AFSIS’s Rice Growing Outlook (RGO)”.

Data Analysis Training in Cambodia as a Part of SAS-PSA Project

On 7-8 April 2022, the Department of Planning and Statistics (DPS) of Cambodia's Ministry of Agricultural and Fishery and Forestry (MAFF), in collaboration with the AFSIS Secretariat, held a virtual conference on Data Analysis Training as part of the Supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN Region project (SAS-PSA). Mr. NIIMI Tomohiro, the Japanese expert, has trained Mr. Stong Kia, the National Consultant of the SAS-PSA project in Cambodia, so that he could pass on his knowledge to other DPS staff in the soon future.

The 10th Meeting of APTERR Council

The 10th Meeting of ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Council, hosted by APTERR Secretariat together with the Singapore Food Agency, Singapore was held as a video conference via Zoom Platform on this recent 25 March 2022. There were delegates from the APTERR members and observers from other organizations such as ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat which consisting of Dr. Waraporn Saelee, AFSIS Manager and Ms. Poufai Khukhuntin, Project Coordinator, and ASEAN Food Security Reserve Board (AFSRB).

SDG 2.4.1 Field Survey of SAS-PSA Project in Cambodia

On 24-30 January 2022, Department of Planning and Statistics (DPS), Ministry of Agricultural Fishery and Forestry (MAFF), Cambodia had visited Battambang Province to conduct a pilot survey as a part of the project for Supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN region or SAS-PSA project in Cambodia.

The 2nd Training Program under the ASEAN-Japan Project (JAIF Project)

The Japan Space Forum (JSF) had conducted the 2nd Training Program under the ASEAN-Japan Project (JAIF Project): Science Based Information Sharing Derived from Earth Observation Satellites for Agriculture Management in the ASEAN Region on 24 November 2021 as an online training. The project is an initiative implementation under the purview of the Sub-Committee on Space Technology and Applications (SCOSA) of ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) with the support from JAIF.

Center for Agricultural Statistics (CAS), Department of Planning and Finance (DoPF), Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF), Lao PDR, had visited Khammouane province on 2 -16 August 2021 to conduct a pilot survey for the project for Supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN region or SAS-PSA project.

The Wrap-up Meeting as A Part of SAS-PSA Project in Lao PDR

On 21 December 2021, AFSIS Secretariat, together with the Center for Agricultural Statistic (CAS) Department of Planning and Finance (DOPF), Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) of Lao PDR had jointly conducted the Wrap-up meeting as a part of Project for Supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture or the SAS-PSA project in Lao PDR. The meeting was held via an online platform due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

The ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat along with the Center for Agricultural Information (CAI), Agricultural Development Policy and Planning Division, Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand, had conducted an In Country Wrap-up Meeting as a part of project for Supporting Agricultural Survey on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in ASEAN region or SAS-PSA project in Thailand on 17 August 2021 via Zoom application due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
