On 24–25 June 2026, the AFSIS Secretariat participated in the 46th Meeting of the ASEAN Food Security Reserve Board (AFSRB) via a virtual conference. The Meeting was jointly organized by the AFSRB Secretariat and the Department of Agriculture (DOA), Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MOALI) of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and hosted in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
The Meeting was attended by representatives from ASEAN Member States, the AFSRB Secretariat, the ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Secretariat, and the AFSIS Secretariat. The Meeting aimed to review the current food security situation and assess the regional food outlook for 2025–2026. To this end, ASEAN Member States exchanged information on the supply and demand situations of four major food commodities: rice, maize, sugar, and soybean, including production, consumption, trade, and food reserves, to strengthen regional preparedness for potential food supply disruptions. The importance of continued regional cooperation, timely information sharing, and strengthened coordination in enhancing ASEAN's preparedness and response to food security challenges, in line with the ASEAN Leaders' Declaration on the Vision for Food, Agriculture and Forestry Towards 2045.
On this occasion, Dr. Sumanya Ngandee presented the Progress Report on the ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS), highlighting the achievements of the AFSIS Secretariat from 2025 to the second quarter of 2026, as well as the Future Work Plan for 2026. The presentation also emphasized the important role of AFSIS in monitoring regional food security, disseminating timely food security information, strengthening the Early Warning Information (EWI) system, and supporting emergency response through reliable data and information. These efforts continue to support evidence-based policy decision-making and strengthen food security across the ASEAN region.

On 17–18 June 2026, the 24th AFSIS Focal Point Meeting was successfully convened via video conference, hosted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in collaboration with the ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat.
The ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) Japan, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan (RESTEC), and Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), conducted the 2nd Hands-on Training Courses for Agricultural Statisticians, the Final Workshop, and the 2nd Seminar for Executive Officials under the JAIF Project entitled “Improvement of Rice Paddy Area Statistics and Damage Assessment using Earth Observation Satellites for ASEAN” in Sriracha, Chonburi Province, and Bangkok, Thailand.
On 23 April 2026, the AFSIS Secretariat participated in the Ad-Hoc Senior Officials Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (SOM-AMAF), held via a virtual platform, to discuss the implications of recent developments in the Middle East on regional food security and to identify coordinated measures to enhance ASEAN’s food resilience, in preparation for the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF) Meeting.
The agricultural sector plays a vital role in supporting food security and livelihoods across ASEAN, where diverse production capacities shape the availability of major agricultural commodities such as rice, maize, sugarcane, soybean, and cassava. This report examines the SSR patterns across ASEAN to emphasize regional strengths, structural imbalances, and the implications for food security and agricultural policy in the region.
